Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Talbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erkesh Shakeev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erkesh Shakeev is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sam Talbert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erkesh Shakeev!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Talbert looking to score a takedown here. Shakeev is defending well but Talbert drives through and ends up in Shakeev's guard.
Talbert is stalling in the full guard.
Talbert trying to control the position from guard on top but Shakeev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shakeev being controlled here, momentarily.

Talbert not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sam Talbert wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Shakeev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Talbert.
Shakeev looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Talbert throws a series of punches but Shakeev avoids them all with ease.
Talbert gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Shakeev is looking to slow Talbert down with leg kicks.

Talbert scores with a one two! Shakeev had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Shakeev manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Talbert is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Shakeev trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Talbert wants to hold on but Shakeev pushes him away.
Shakeev tries to control but Talbert wriggling away.
Talbert is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Shakeev wants to control the pace but Talbert is squirming around nicely.
Shakeev controlling the position easily from mount.
You get the feeling that Talbert really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Talbert keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Talbert trying desperately to get to his feet.
Talbert sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Talbert keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Erkesh Shakeev has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Shakeev catches Talbert with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
No joy there for Shakeev, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shakeev scores with a punch to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Talbert jabs Shakeev right on the nose. Shakeev blinks but takes it well.
Talbert lands a jab to the nose.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Talbert shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Talbert will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Shakeev throws a right hand that Talbert ducks under and follows up with a left that Talbert also avoids with ease.
Talbert misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Shakeev counters with a body kick that stops Talbert in his tracks momentarily.
Talbert uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Shakeev.
Talbert connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Shakeev's hands.

Talbert fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shakeev to the ground. Talbert is now in Shakeev's guard.
Talbert wants to pass the guard but Shakeev is keeping the position.
Talbert has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Talbert advances to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shakeev is breathing heavily.
Talbert is trying to control. Shakeev wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Talbert is pressing down on Shakeev's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shakeev is holding on for now.
Shakeev is looking to control Talbert's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shakeev avoid being mounted?

Shakeev wants to get back to his feet.
Talbert seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Talbert prevents Shakeev from improving his position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Talbert tries to bum rush Shakeev with a series of wild strikes but Shakeev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Talbert lands a nice forearm strike.
Talbert is putting a hurting on Shakeev here, landing some big shots from side control.

Talbert remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Talbert has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Talbert fails to land a wild elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Talbert's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Talbert lands with a nice combination. Shakeev backs away looking to recover.
Talbert fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Shakeev on the side of the head.

Shakeev wants to control the action here but instead Talbert manages to pass to full mount!

Shakeev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Talbert lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Talbert postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Shakeev looks a forlorn figure.

Talbert connects with a bit shot that sees Shakeev covering up! More strikes from Talbert and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Talbert is our winner by TKO!
