The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garrick has his takedown stuffed

and Thomas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Garrick is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thomas is just riding it out for now. Garrick eventually gives up the hold.

Garrick is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Thomas to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Garrick drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Thomas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Garrick has Thomas in his guard.

Garrick is looking for a kimura but Thomas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Garrick to get the leverage.

Garrick is nestled in close to Thomas, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Garrick is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Thomas still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Thomas has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Garrick's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Thomas keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Garrick dives in and grabs Thomas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Thomas pushes down on Garrick's head and hops out.
Garrick shoots in looking for a takedown but Thomas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Garrick's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
