PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joey Silvera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Duddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silvera comes to the cage accompanied by Wedlock. Duddy has chosen Dropkick Murphys - 'Loyal to No One' as his entrance music. John Duddy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Joey Silvera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Duddy!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duddy throws a leg kick but Silvera checks it.
Silvera feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Duddy's calf.
John Duddy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duddy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Duddy connects with a looping right hand.
Duddy pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Duddy throws a sloppy head kick and Silvera moves out of range easily.

It looks like John Duddy has been cut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Silvera.
Silvera is pushing Duddy up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Duddy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Duddy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Duddy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Duddy has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Silvera is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Duddy.

Silvera stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Silvera counters with an inside leg kick.
Silvera takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Duddy lands with a kick to the temple. Silvera shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fight stays on the outside here - Silvera looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silvera misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

John Duddy's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Silvera is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Duddy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Silvera walks away with a smile on his face. Duddy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Joey Silvera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Duddy.
Silvera throws a sloppy head kick and Duddy moves out of range easily.
Silvera lands with a thumping leg kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Silvera checks a leg kick.
Duddy misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silvera tries to close the distance and clinch but Duddy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Duddy throws a half hearted mid kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joey Silvera showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silvera, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Joey Silvera rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
