The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Luciano's calf.
Luciano throws an overhand right that lands on Maia's shoulder, as Maia tries to avoid the shot.
Maia moves forwards but Luciano connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Luciano throws a push kick but Maia slaps the foot to one side.

Luciano stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Luciano wants it to stay on the feet.

Charlie Luciano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Maia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Luciano can't do much from the bottom here.
Maia misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Maia has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Luciano is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Maia yanks on the arm and Luciano is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Maia.
