PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Fatu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thumper McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fatu comes into the arena with Hawaii - Aloha-Oe blaring out of the sound system. McGee comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Here Comes The Boom! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Fatu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thumper McGee!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGee takes the fight into the clinch.

Fatu is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. McGee can't fight it off and eventually Fatu manages to take the fight to the floor. McGee looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fatu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McGee wants to stand but Fatu is controlling the position.
Fatu trying to control the position from guard on top but McGee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McGee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fatu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ryan Fatu.
McGee misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fatu moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like Ryan Fatu has been cut.
McGee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fatu moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Fatu fails with the takedown.

Fatu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGee takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
McGee is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Fatu is controlling him well.
Fatu is looking to take a break and control but McGee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fatu moves into full mount!

Fatu jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McGee manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Fatu decides to stand back up.
Fatu is on the wrong end of a nice combination from McGee.
McGee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Fatu fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McGee cracks Fatu with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
McGee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

McGee clinches up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGee gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Fatu.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Fatu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGee lands with a short punch from the clinch.

McGee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McGee stuffs the takedown attempt from Fatu. Fatu gets slowly back to his feet.
Some wild striking there from McGee.
McGee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fatu moves away from the strike by McGee.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fatu looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
McGee cracks a nice hook into Fatu's ribs.
Fatu is breathing heavily.
Fatu fails with the takedown.
Fatu blocks a head kick by McGee.

McGee forces Fatu back against the cage and clinches.
Fatu jumps guard but McGee stands there with Fatu around his waist. Fatu gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Fatu prevents McGee from breaking the clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fatu tries to score a body lock takedown but McGee shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

McGee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McGee lands with an overhand left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thumper McGee dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ryan Fatu's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!



McGee takes the fight into the clinch.
McGee wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

McGee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ryan Fatu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A left and a right from McGee both land. Nice combination.

McGee has Fatu up against the cage in a clinch.
Fatu wants a takedown.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fatu.
McGee working aggressively here.
McGee has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

McGee breaks the clinch.

McGee would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

McGee has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fatu is proving hard to escape from.
Fatu controls McGee momentarily but McGee frees himself.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Fatu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGee's waist but McGee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fatu off to one side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fatu is keen to just control but McGee is a slippery customer.
McGee pushes Fatu off looking to stand but Fatu dives back in and keeps control.

Fatu is trying to control. McGee wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Fatu moves forwards but McGee connects with a nice, crisp jab.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Fatu takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

McGee wants to get back to his feet.

Thumper McGee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Fatu postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGee can do anything to dispel that myth.
McGee avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
McGee is looking to stand up but Fatu isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Fatu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGee as he avoids it easily.

McGee lands a nice shot that snaps Fatu's head back.
McGee lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Fatu takes a shot to the body in his stride.
McGee dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Fatu fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Fatu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McGee cracks Fatu with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fatu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McGee tries to avoid it but Fatu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McGee to the ground. McGee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fatu looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Fatu is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

The fight stays on the outside here - Fatu looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

McGee moves into the clinch successfully.

Fatu is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McGee is defending well.
McGee looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
McGee can't break the clinch.
Fatu is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

McGee effectively controlling the action here.
Ryan Fatu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

McGee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McGee digs a good body shot into Fatu's ribs.
McGee cracks Fatu with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McGee darts in and clinches Fatu up against the cage.
McGee has had enough of the clinch but Fatu keeps him there for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

McGee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fatu on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Thumper McGee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
McGee scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thumper McGee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McGee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
