PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Yoshimitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peace Braquis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braquis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Enter Sandman. Ryo Yoshimitsu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Yoshimitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peace Braquis!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshimitsu leaves Braquis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Yoshimitsu fails with a takedown attempt.

Yoshimitsu closes the distance and clinches.
Yoshimitsu throws a head punch that misses.
Yoshimitsu drops down looking for an ankle pick but Braquis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Yoshimitsu shoots for a double leg takedown but Braquis sprawls well. He's pushed Yoshimitsu's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryo Yoshimitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yoshimitsu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Braquis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Braquis shoots and misses

and Yoshimitsu counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yoshimitsu.
Braquis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yoshimitsu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yoshimitsu prevents Braquis from getting back to his feet.

Braquis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Braquis avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Braquis is trying to control the position but Yoshimitsu postures up.
Yoshimitsu will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Yoshimitsu trying to stand up but can't free himself from Braquis's guard.
Braquis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Yoshimitsu content to stall in guard here.
Yoshimitsu wants to control from the top but Braquis keeps moving.

Ryo Yoshimitsu has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Yoshimitsu tries for a takedown but Braquis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Yoshimitsu moves to clinch but Braquis breaks away
and Braquis counters with a series of strikes. Yoshimitsu will be more careful next time no doubt.

Braquis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yoshimitsu as he avoids it easily.
Ryo Yoshimitsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshimitsu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Braquis pinned against the cage. Braquis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshimitsu takes an elbow to the forehead.
Braquis tries to pull guard but Yoshimitsu won't allow it.
Yoshimitsu goes for a takedown attempt but Braquis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That kick from Yoshimitsu tenderised Braquis's leg. Braquis is trying to keep his angry face on.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Yoshimitsu is defended easily by Braquis.
Braquis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yoshimitsu as he jumps to the side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yoshimitsu is looking to clinch.

Yoshimitsu moves into the clinch.
Yoshimitsu is working for takedown but Braquis is calmly controlling the position for now.
Yoshimitsu is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Braquis gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Yoshimitsu is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Braquis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Braquis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryo Yoshimitsu dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Yoshimitsu shoots in but Braquis avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Braquis counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Braquis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Braquis wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryo Yoshimitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Braquis throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Braquis tries to clinch but Yoshimitsu moves out of range.

Yoshimitsu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Yoshimitsu lands in his opponent's guard.
Braquis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Yoshimitsu tries to free his leg and advance position but Braquis is retaining full guard.
Braquis looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Yoshimitsu puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Braquis tries to roll over but Yoshimitsu keeps him under control.

Yoshimitsu wants to work for an arm triangle but Braquis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Yoshimitsu throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Braquis trying to control but Yoshimitsu postures up.
Braquis is looking for a sweep. Yoshimitsu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Yoshimitsu is just content to waste time from the top position. Braquis takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yoshimitsu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Braquis has control of Yoshimitsu's left arm, preventing Yoshimitsu from doing any damage.

Yoshimitsu is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ryo Yoshimitsu.
Yoshimitsu tries to clinch but Braquis moves out of range.
Braquis is looking to clinch.
Braquis closes the distance and clinches up with Yoshimitsu, looking for a takedown. Braquis pushes Yoshimitsu against the cage but Yoshimitsu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Braquis counters with a left and a right that stings Yoshimitsu.
Braquis stuffs the takedown attempt from Yoshimitsu. Yoshimitsu gets slowly back to his feet.

Braquis shoots in but no luck this time.

Braquis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Yoshimitsu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Braquis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Braquis prevents Yoshimitsu from escaping the position.

Braquis decides to stand up, so the ref orders Yoshimitsu to his feet.

and Braquis counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yoshimitsu is looking to stand up but Braquis isn't so interested in that idea.
Yoshimitsu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peace Braquis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Braquis lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Yoshimitsu shoots and misses

Yoshimitsu wants to get back to striking at distance but Braquis won't allow it.

Ryo Yoshimitsu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peace Braquis.
Yoshimitsu will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Braquis up against the cage.

Yoshimitsu is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Braquis is just riding it out for now. Yoshimitsu eventually gives up the hold.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Braquis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Yoshimitsu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Braquis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nice strikes from Yoshimitsu there.
Ryo Yoshimitsu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Yoshimitsu wants to pass to mount but Braquis is defending the position.
Yoshimitsu performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Braquis wants to control but Yoshimitsu is keeping busy.

Yoshimitsu is looking to take a break and control but Braquis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yoshimitsu looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ryo Yoshimitsu just wasn't active enough.

Braquis feints and as Yoshimitsu raises his hands in defense, Braquis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Yoshimitsu is looking to stand up but Braquis isn't so interested in that idea.
Braquis lands a couple of decent looking shots.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ryo Yoshimitsu.
I think Yoshimitsu has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
