PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Night Owl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owl comes to the cage accompanied by Dead man Gun. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Night Owl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owl misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rogers swings widly with a right hand
and Owl counters with a head kick. That will keep Rogers thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Owl shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rogers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rogers is pulling down on Owl's head to control his posture.

Owl has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Owl is looking to work some ground and pound but Rogers has wrist control.
Owl sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rogers's guard.
Owl thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rogers's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rogers can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rogers is trying to maintain the position but Owl is very close to passing his half guard.

Owl is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Owl is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rogers defends it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Owl is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rogers tries to buck Owl off but he can't manage it.
Owl throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Rogers wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Owl.
Rogers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Owl. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Owl throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Owl sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Rogers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Owl throwing strikes here but Rogers is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Owl moves to back control.
Owl throws a series of strikes and Rogers wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.

Rogers defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Owl.
Rogers tries to lock up and control but Owl gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Owl is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Rogers to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rogers shrugs it off.

Owl swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rogers is now in Owl's guard. A big mistake from Owl there, giving up the dominant position!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rogers postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Owl is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rogers being controlled here momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Night Owl dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rogers keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The crowd cheers as Rogers lands an impressive looking overhand right. Owl doesn't seem phased though.

Owl gets a double leg takedown into Rogers's guard.
Owl throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Owl postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Owl thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Owl missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Owl stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Rogers dives in and grabs Owl's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owl pushes down on Rogers's head and hops out.

Owl gets a takedown into half guard.
Owl thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Owl thows a huge punch but Rogers dodges it nicely.

Owl looking for a submission but Rogers manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Rogers is holding on to half guard well.
Night Owl overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Owl frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rogers has left one of his arms exposed and Owl doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Rogers screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Night Owl!
Night Owl took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
