PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Mason Storm has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mason Storm seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Storm fails to land with a series of punches.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Storm would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Storm swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Storm's guard.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Storm keeps moving.

Gracie is trying to control. Storm wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Storm is looking to get back to full guard here but Gracie has managed to pass to side control instead.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Storm is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Storm controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.

Storm is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Storm closes the distance and clinches up with Gracie, looking for a takedown. Storm pushes Gracie against the ropes but Gracie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Storm tries a head kick but it misses.
Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Storm which made him look bad.

Storm sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gracie is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Mason Storm overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Storm misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Storm is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.
Storm trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it.
Gracie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Storm.

Storm tries to stand but can't do so whilst Gracie controls his leg.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Storm trying to control the action but Gracie is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Mason Storm wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Storm throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Storm closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Storm lands in his opponent's guard.
Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Storm is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Storm avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Storm trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Storm passes Gracie's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


No joy there for Storm, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Storm looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gracie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Storm pulls his head out easily.
Storm wants to pass the guard but Gracie is defending well.
Storm not doing much here.
Gracie is looking to get back to full guard here but Storm has managed to pass to side control instead.

Storm happy to just control the position for now.
Storm has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gracie!
Gracie is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Storm trying to control but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie can't escape the position.
Storm controlling the pace for now.
Storm avoids the attempt from Gracie to control.
Gracie suckers Storm into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Gracie is now in Storm's guard!

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Storm wants to hit a switch here but Gracie passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Storm there!
Storm tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gracie goes for an armbar but Storm turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Storm.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Storm is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Storm is staying tight to Gracie's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Storm tries to stand but Gracie controls the position and pulls Storm into his guard.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Storm showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Storm has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
