PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ellis has chosen Out Of Space by Prodigy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Ellis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ellis closes the distance and pushes Marquez back into the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ellis as Marquez tries to tie him up.
Marquez misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Ellis stalling.
Ellis blocks a body shot from Marquez.
Marquez swings wildly with an uppercut but Ellis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marquez is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Ellis has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Marquez is trying to keep an underhook but Ellis manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ellis not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Ellis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marquez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ellis.

Ellis is trying to work for a kimura but Marquez is defending well.

Marquez is refusing to be controlled, as Ellis sits in half guard.
Marquez tries to roll over but Ellis keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ellis is pressing down on Marquez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Marquez is holding on for now.
Ellis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marquez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ellis has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Merican Ninjas!. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Ellis is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Marquez as he works his way to full guard.
Marquez has momentary wrist control but Ellis slips an elbow through the middle.
Marquez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ellis controls the pace.

Ellis is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Marquez off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Michael Ellis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ellis throws a hook but Marquez avoids it easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ellis is on top in guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Marquez closes the distance and clinches up with Ellis, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes Ellis against the cage but Ellis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ellis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Marquez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ellis.
Ellis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ellis somewhat.
Marquez throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ellis.
Ellis shoots in looking for a takedown but Marquez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ellis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jay Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Ellis.
Ellis has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ellis there as he acknowledges the shot.

Ellis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Marquez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ellis is in Marquez's guard.

Marquez wants to hit a switch here but Ellis passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Marquez there!

Marquez is in a horrible position here. Ellis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ellis wants to free his trapped foot but Marquez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Michael Ellis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ellis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
