PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between furry woogie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, furry woogie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
woogie lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Edgar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around woogie's waist but woogie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Edgar off to one side.
Edgar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and woogie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Edgar!
Edgar tries to hold on but woogie pushes him away.
Edgar is trying to escape the mount.
woogie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Edgar is looking to escape.
Edgar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Edgar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
woogie trying to control but Edgar is having none of it.
Edgar is wriggling around trying to escape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Edgar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Edgar really wants to buck woogie off and get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Edgar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

woogie swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Edgar is now in woogie's guard. A big mistake from woogie there, giving up the dominant position!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
woogie throws a leg kick but Edgar sees it coming and moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Edgar is looking to clinch but woogie is avoiding it.
woogie tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Edgar paws at him with a jab and circles away.
woogie feints and then cracks Edgar's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Edgar down.
Horrible takedown by Edgar or perhaps it was just good defense by woogie which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

You get the feeling that woogie really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Edgar throws a strike but woogie rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edgar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Edgar keeping moving, preventing woogie from controlling successfully.
Edgar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in woogie's guard.

Frank Edgar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Edgar stalks woogie and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into woogie's face. woogie staggers backwards, shaken.

Edgar feints and as woogie raises his hands in defense, Edgar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Edgar seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Edgar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
