PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Seth Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiki Hakaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Seth Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kiki Hakaki!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hakaki has his takedown stuffed

and Patterson counters with a shoot takedown. Hakaki fights it but they end up in guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hakaki looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Seth Patterson just wasn't active enough.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hakaki takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Patterson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Patterson wants to control the pace but Hakaki is squirming around nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patterson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Patterson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hakaki is surviving well by controlling Patterson's body position as best he can.
Hakaki is desperately trying to improve his position but Patterson has a good base and remains in mount.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Patterson goes for an armbar but Hakaki turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Hakaki.

Hakaki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Patterson was well out of range. Poor timing from Hakaki.

Patterson decides to stand back up. Patterson steps back and let's Hakaki get back to his feet.

and Hakaki counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hakaki.

Hakaki jumps guard but Patterson stands there with Hakaki around his waist. Hakaki gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hakaki breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Patterson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hakaki has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hakaki and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Patterson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hakaki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hakaki has a takedown stuffed.

Patterson shoots in for a takedown but Hakaki shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Seth Patterson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Patterson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hakaki did well to prevent Patterson getting side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Patterson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hakaki sees it coming and defends easily.
Hakaki is staying active underneath Patterson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hakaki is looking for a sweep. Patterson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Patterson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hakaki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Patterson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's time! Patterson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Hakaki tries to clinch there but Patterson circles away.

Hakaki unloads a knee to the mid-section. Patterson lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Hakaki misses with a hook to the ribs.

Hakaki jumps guard and drags Patterson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Patterson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Seth Patterson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hakaki shoots in but no luck this time.

Patterson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hakaki looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Patterson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Patterson lands a couple of good shots and Hakaki has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

What can Hakaki do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Patterson is looking for the choke from the back position but Hakaki is controlling his hands well.

Patterson has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Hakaki! Can he survive? No! He's out! Patterson gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
