Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Simon Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Opal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simon Simpson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Opal!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simpson with a lazy takedown attempt

and Opal moves into the clinch.
Simpson is working for takedown but Opal is calmly controlling the position for now.
Simpson missing with knees to the body.
Simpson is trying to stall.
Opal has Simpson pushed against the cage.
Simpson tries to pull guard but Opal forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Simpson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Opal lands an elbow that stopped Simpson in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Simon Simpson has been cut.
Simpson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Opal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Opal gets a clinch.
Simpson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Opal gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Opal is pressed up against the cage. Simpson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Opal down to the mat. Opal avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Denis Opal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Simpson with a poor takedown

and Opal counters with a takedown into side control.
Simpson tries to improve position but can't.
Opal controls the position.
Opal is putting a hurting on Simpson here, landing some big shots from side control.
Simpson is trying to improve his position.
Opal working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Opal stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Opal decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Opal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Opal tries to pass the half guard into mount. Simpson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Well, if Opal is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Opal's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Simpson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Opal pulls his head out easily.
Opal performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simpson manages to get to full guard.
Opal stands and throws Simpson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Opal stands up.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Opal.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simpson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Opal counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Opal.
Simpson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Opal is pushing Simpson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Simpson tries for a takedown but Opal manages to get underhooks.

Opal jumps guard.

Simpson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Opal keeping full guard, as Simpson tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Opal wants to stand up but Simpson is controlling him.
Simpson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Opal throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Simpson wants to control from the top but Opal keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Opal utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Opal will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Opal dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Simon Simpson's cut.
That's time! Simpson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Opal fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Simpson, pushing him back against the cage.

Simpson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Simpson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Opal is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Simpson, into his guard.

Simpson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Opal can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Simpson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Opal advances to half guard.
Opal is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Opal landing punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Opal with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Opal tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Denis Opal has got the better of the ground game so far.
Simpson working to try and regain half guard.

Opal is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Opal stuns Simpson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Opal connects with the punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Opal tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Simpson swivels and escapes.
Nice sprawl there from Opal as Simpson shoots in.
Opal rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Simpson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Simpson takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Opal connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


Simpson is rocked!
Denis Opal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Opal gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Oh Simpson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Opal gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Simpson with the active half guard here but Opal passes nicely into side control.
Opal cracks Simpson with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Opal immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Simpson is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Opal!
