Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabiano Martins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard comes to the cage accompanied by Superman. Fabiano Martins has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dwight Howard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabiano Martins!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Martins.
Howard throws a body punch but Martins moves out of range.
Howard shoots for a takedown but Martins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Martins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Howard pinned against the cage. Howard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Howard staying out of range there.
Martins shoots in for a takedown but Howard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Martins.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Howard wants to get back to his feet.

Howard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Martins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Howard keeps working.

You can see the frustration on Howard's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Howard fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Martins moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Dwight Howard has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Martins shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Martins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Howard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martins has managed to get both his arms back between Howard's legs - danger averted.

Martins gets to his feet - Howard follows without any prompting.

and Martins counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Howard thinking.

Martins shoots in looking for a takedown but Howard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Martins's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Fabiano Martins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Martins darts in and clinches Howard up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Martins is looking to pass into half guard but Howard pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Howard is in guard.
Howard won't allow Martins to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martins is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Martins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Howard defends well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Martins looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Martins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Howard sprawls well initially but Martins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Howard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Martins is working away from the top position though.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Howard tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Martins trying to control but Howard is working from the bottom.
Howard lands with a heel strike from the guard.

Howard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Martins is stalling in the full guard.

Howard has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Martins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Howard is trying to control the position but Martins postures up.
Howard lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Martins!

Howard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dwight Howard will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Martins misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Howard tries to clinch there but Martins circles away.

Martins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Howard to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Martins is looking for a triangle but Howard pushes his legs off easily.

Martins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Howard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Howard is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Howard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Martins drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Martins is looking to take a break and control but Howard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Martins is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Howard defends it well.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dwight Howard.
I think Howard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
