PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Medrado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Omar Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Medrado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Omar Khan!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khan dives in and scores a takedown into Medrado's guard.
Khan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Khan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Medrado has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Khan has managed to get both his arms back between Medrado's legs - danger averted.
Medrado looking for a sweep. Not yet Medrado, not yet.

Medrado is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Khan is aware though and is defending well.
Khan stands and throws Medrado's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Khan grinds an elbow into Medrado's temple.
Khan working the head and body with strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Check out the look on Khan's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Medrado is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Khan has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Medrado is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Khan controlling the position.
Medrado is looking for a sweep.
Khan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Medrado down.
Khan trying to control the action but Medrado is working from the bottom.
Khan is chipping away with strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Khan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Medrado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Medrado manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Medrado is pressing down on Khan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Khan is holding on for now.
Medrado wants to take a breather but Khan is having none of it.
Khan is concentrating on defense, preventing Medrado from advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Khan wants to get back to full guard.

Khan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Khan wants to control but Medrado is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Khan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Medrado's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Medrado's back!
Medrado trying to control but not successfully.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Medrado turns into Khan and is now in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Medrado is looking to stand up but Khan won't let him.
Medrado trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Khan is trying to keep Medrado in close.
Khan pulls Medrado in close to his closed guard and prevents Medrado from doing any damage or advancing position.
Medrado works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Medrado is trying to control. Khan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Khan tries to roll over but Medrado keeps him under control.
Medrado trying to pass the guard but Khan defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Medrado wants to take a breather but Khan is having none of it.

Medrado is working for a submission of some sort.
Medrado is breathing heavily.
Khan is doing well to control the position and prevent Medrado from advancing to side control.

Medrado is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Khan trying to control but Medrado postures up.
Khan moves into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan has control of Medrado's left arm, preventing Medrado from doing any damage.
Khan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Khan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Medrado wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.
Medrado throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Khan pulls Medrado in close to prevent any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Khan shoots in but Medrado avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Medrado shoots in and gets a takedown into Khan's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Medrado!
Khan lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Omar Khan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Medrado gets the takedown into side control.

Medrado tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Khan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Medrado is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Medrado looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Medrado moves into full mount!
Medrado fails to advance to Khan's back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Medrado swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Khan is now in Medrado's guard. A big mistake from Medrado there, giving up the dominant position!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Khan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Medrado working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Khan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Khan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Khan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Medrado has his foot on Khan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Khan works his way back into a safe position though.
Medrado has momentary wrist control but Khan slips an elbow through the middle.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Khan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Khan drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Khan as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Medrado screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Khan! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Omar Khan!
Omar Khan took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
