PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Gold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob McGrady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGrady has chosen Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGrady tries to close the distance and clinch but Gold swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gold misses with a wild body shot.
Gold walks into a jab.
Gold feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to McGrady's calf.
Gold throws a head kick but McGrady moves out of range.
Gold digs a good hook to McGrady's body.
Gold shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gold lunges at McGrady with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by McGrady's hand.
McGrady tries to clinch but Gold is having none of it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGrady throws a solid leg kick but Gold takes the impact on his shin and smiles at McGrady.
Gold misses with a hook.
Gold just misses with a punch to the body.
Gold fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt McGrady.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gold.

McGrady pushes Gold away with a front kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by McGrady.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGrady tries to pass to full mount but Gold defends it.

McGrady is stalling here. Gold is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! McGrady seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gold has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
McGrady tries to bench press Gold off him but Gold keeps the position.

McGrady takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Gold is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McGrady defends it well.

That was a close round but I would say that Mr Gold will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McGrady looks to throw the jab but Gold is out of range.
Gold takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Gold is looking to wear down McGrady with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gold leaves McGrady with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

McGrady bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gold is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Gold is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McGrady pulls his head out easily.
Gold makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gold.

Gold has his foot on McGrady's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McGrady works his way back into a safe position though.

Gold manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McGrady manages to get himself to full guard.

Mr Gold overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gold wants to lay and pray for a moment but McGrady keeps working.

Gold throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Gold is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gold throws a strike but McGrady rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gold lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McGrady!

Gold lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Gold goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Gold leaves McGrady with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gold misses with a hook.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Gold here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
McGrady finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gold's corner calls for a 1-2. Gold obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gold throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
McGrady fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gold has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gold lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and McGrady has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from McGrady and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Gold is looking to score with low kicks.
McGrady tries to clinch up but Gold circles away and keeps his distance.
Gold throws a poor cross that misses
and McGrady counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
A lazy left from Gold finds it's target.

McGrady closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gold is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McGrady is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Gold is looking for a sweep. McGrady is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Gold is trying to control but can't.

McGrady is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gold is not content to let McGrady control the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gold is looking to control McGrady's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gold avoid being mounted?

We're going to have a standup here because Mr Gold wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Bob McGrady has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gold uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gold lands with an overhand left.
McGrady tries to clinch but Gold moves out of range.

McGrady is not content to let Gold control the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGrady tries to kick Gold off but Gold keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Gold is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and McGrady reverses the position - he's now on top in Gold's guard.
Gold looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mr Gold showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gold has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
