PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Apidej Yaenprateep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Apidej Yaenprateep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Penn!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yaenprateep tries a head kick but it misses.
No joy there for Yaenprateep, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Yaenprateep looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Yaenprateep lands with a kick to the temple. Penn shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.
Penn on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yaenprateep throws a head kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Penn.
Yaenprateep scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Yaenprateep lands a head kick. Penn smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yaenprateep tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yaenprateep to the ground. Yaenprateep escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Apidej Yaenprateep has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Penn.
Yaenprateep lets loose with a powerful body kick. Penn will feel that in the morning.
Yaenprateep stuffs the takedown.

Penn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yaenprateep did well to prevent Penn getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn looks winded!

Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Yaenprateep defends the submission attempt.

Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Penn is looking for a kimura but Yaenprateep is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Penn to get the leverage.

Penn is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Yaenprateep defends it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Penn is pressing down on Yaenprateep's thigh, looking to free his foot. Yaenprateep is holding on for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Apidej Yaenprateep will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Yaenprateep manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Penn pushes down on Yaenprateep's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Penn has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Penn goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Yaenprateep is on top in guard.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yaenprateep can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yaenprateep defends it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Penn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yaenprateep defends well.

Penn has a closed guard, preventing Yaenprateep from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Yaenprateep is defending well. Penn quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Yaenprateep has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Penn celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jay Penn!
