PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Derek Flynn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zhang Chunqiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chunqiao has chosen You Can't Be Friends With Everyone by MAKE OUT as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flynn gets tackled into the cage by Chunqiao. Chunqiao maintains the clinch.
Flynn has Chunqiao pressed against the cage, preventing Chunqiao from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Flynn is working for takedown but Chunqiao is calmly controlling the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derek Flynn.

Flynn shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Flynn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chunqiao on the ground.

Flynn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Chunqiao to his feet.

Flynn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chunqiao was covering up waiting for the punch and Flynn finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Flynn looking to sit in guard and control but Chunqiao gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Flynn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Chunqiao is controlling him.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Chunqiao sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Flynn's guard.
Chunqiao wants to free his trapped foot but Flynn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Derek Flynn will probably get the nod.

Chunqiao will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

No joy there for Chunqiao, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chunqiao ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Chunqiao drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Flynn dives on top into guard.
Flynn distracts Chunqiao with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Flynn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chunqiao manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Flynn has Chunqiao in his guard.

Chunqiao seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Flynn is holding on tight.
Derek Flynn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Flynn has left one of his arms exposed and Chunqiao doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Flynn screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Zhang Chunqiao was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
