PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Trieds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Xavier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xavier has chosen Spit It Out as his entrance music. Donald Trieds has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donald Trieds!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vic Xavier!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trieds has Xavier up against the cage in a clinch.
Trieds has had enough of the clinch but Xavier keeps him there for the moment.
Xavier is pressed up against the cage. Trieds has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Xavier down to the mat. Xavier avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Trieds fails with a takedown attempt.

Xavier tries to keep at a distance but Trieds has taken the fight into the clinch.
Trieds throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Trieds manages to pull guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Trieds has control of Xavier's left arm, preventing Xavier from doing any damage.
Xavier looking to sit in guard and control but Trieds gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trieds not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Trieds passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Xavier prevents Trieds from moving into mount.
Xavier is pushing Trieds's head away, looking to escape. Trieds manages to hold on to the position though.
Trieds is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Xavier's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trieds tries to move to mount but Xavier blocks the move with his legs.
Xavier is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Xavier parries the strikes from Trieds easily there. Trieds is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Xavier to escape.
Xavier is not content to let Trieds control the position.

Trieds thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trieds misses with the ground and pound.

Trieds has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Xavier closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Xavier lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Xavier tries to free his leg and advance position but Trieds is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Trieds had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Xavier defends it easily.
Trieds tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Xavier controlling from the top position.
Trieds keeping moving, preventing Xavier from controlling successfully.
Trieds is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trieds wants to control but Xavier is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donald Trieds dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Trieds has managed to clinch.
Xavier blocks an elbow strike from Trieds.
Trieds changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Xavier fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Vic Xavier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Trieds or perhaps it was just good defense by Xavier which made him look bad.
Trieds shoots in and drives through. Xavier sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donald Trieds. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Xavier tries to close the distance and clinch up but Trieds swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Xavier manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Trieds on his heels. He'll look to pass Trieds's guard now, I'm sure.

Xavier is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Trieds is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Trieds has escaped and now he's on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Xavier can do anything to dispel that myth.

Trieds wants to control from the top but Xavier keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Donald Trieds wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Xavier displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Trieds.
Trieds avoids the head kick by Xavier.
Xavier throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Xavier closes the distance looking to clinch
and Trieds counters with a good, hard body kick but Xavier shrugs it off.
Xavier is breathing heavily.
Xavier misses with a body shot.
Xavier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Trieds tries to avoid it but Xavier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Trieds to the ground. Trieds escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Xavier lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Trieds has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Trieds and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Trieds misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No luck for Trieds with that takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trieds tries to close the distance and clinch up but Xavier swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Trieds shoots for a takedown but Xavier saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Xavier avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Xavier throws a combination that misses
and Xavier takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Trieds stuffs the takedown.
Xavier wants to land a leg kick but Trieds is out of range.
Trieds looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Donald Trieds is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Xavier avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Trieds forces Xavier back against the cage and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trieds is trying to force a seperation but Xavier has the dominant position.

Xavier works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Trieds has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Xavier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Xavier drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Trieds manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Xavier has Trieds in his guard.
Trieds trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Donald Trieds will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Trieds tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Xavier shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Trieds is pulling down on Xavier's head to control his posture.
Trieds controls Xavier momentarily but Xavier frees himself.
Xavier loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trieds is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Donald Trieds just wasn't active enough.
Trieds shoots in for a takedown but Xavier shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Xavier avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Xavier motions for Trieds to come forward. Xavier throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Xavier misses with a double jab

and Trieds holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Trieds pulls Xavier into guard.

Xavier drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Trieds dives on top into guard.
Trieds wants to control from the top but Xavier keeps moving.
Trieds wants to pass the guard but Xavier is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trieds advances to half guard.
Trieds with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Xavier is trying to maintain the position but Trieds is very close to passing his half guard.
Trieds seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Xavier does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Donald Trieds.
Xavier tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trieds paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Trieds clinches up with Xavier and pushes him back against the cage.
Trieds has Xavier pressed against the cage, preventing Xavier from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Trieds pulls guard effortlessly.
Xavier tries to free his leg and advance position but Trieds is retaining full guard.
Xavier postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Trieds is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Trieds is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Xavier drops back, looking for a kneebar! Trieds looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Trieds looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Trieds!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trieds has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Trieds throwing strikes here but Xavier is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Xavier really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Trieds. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Xavier wants to hold on but Trieds pushes him away.
Vic Xavier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Donald Trieds showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Trieds has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
