The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hodge avoids a kick to the body.

Hodge fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hertzog sprawls well initially but Hodge persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hodge not doing much here.
Hertzog is looking to control Hodge's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hertzog avoid being mounted?
Hodge not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hertzog has hold of Hodge's hands but Hodge slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hodge lands with a punch from half guard.
Hodge throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hertzog to regain full guard.

Hodge thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hodge slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hertzog utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hodge postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hodge controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hodge accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hodge postures up in Hertzog's guard and throws a big left but Hertzog blocks it.
Hodge is looking to stand up but Hertzog won't let him.

Hodge thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hodge lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Hodge's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hodge lands a couple of elbows.
Hodge has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hertzog wants to get back to his feet but Hodge passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
