PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Venture (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Mint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Venture comes to the cage accompanied by Party Hard by Andrew W.K.. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Venture!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Trevor Mint!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mint fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mint tries a head kick but it misses.
Mint tries to close the distance and clinch up but Venture swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Venture closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mint is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mint manages to pull guard.

Venture has gone for a leg lock! Mint slips out almost immediately though and dives into Venture's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Venture is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mint postures up in Venture's guard and throws a big left but Venture blocks it.

Venture escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mint gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Venture working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mint doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mint manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mint looking to sit in guard and control but Venture gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mint is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Venture trying to control but Mint is working from the bottom.
Venture throwing strikes but missing.

Venture decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Venture throws a sloppy head kick and Mint moves out of range easily.

Mint decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Venture pushes Mint off looking to stand but Mint dives back in and keeps control.

Venture is staying active underneath Mint, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Venture looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mint throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Venture to regain full guard.
Venture wants to stand and escape but Mint is having none of it.

Venture manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Mint drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Venture trying to keep a closed guard but Mint is proving a slippery customer.
Mint passes Venture's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mint is stalling here. Venture is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mint seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Venture has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Venture is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mint is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mint is not content to let Venture control the position.

Venture is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mint knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mint sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Venture scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Mint misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Venture throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Mint looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Venture is trying to control the position but Mint postures up.

Venture has his foot on Mint's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mint works his way back into a safe position though.
Jason Venture overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mint wants to stand but Venture is controlling his posture from full guard.

Venture drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mint manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Venture has Mint in his guard.

Venture is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Mint is looking to stand up but Venture isn't so interested in that idea.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Venture has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mint can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mint loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Mint wanted to stand there but Venture had control of the position.
Mint postures up and lands a big shot to Venture's brow.

Mint decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Venture, up you get!
Venture tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Venture explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Venture closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mint quickly recovers to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mint preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Mint is trying to control but can't.

Venture looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Venture is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

A relieved looking Jason Venture thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
