PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocco Marchegiano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burza comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica - Enter Sandman. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Burza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rocco Marchegiano!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marchegiano lands with an overhand left.
Marchegiano stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marchegiano wants it to stay on the feet.
Marchegiano throws a right hand that Burza ducks under and follows up with a left that Burza also avoids with ease.
Marchegiano throws an off balance right hand

and Burza counters with a shoot takedown. Marchegiano fights it but they end up in guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Burza wants to control from the top but Marchegiano keeps moving.
Marchegiano working a defensive guard here.
Burza is looking to advance position but Marchegiano has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Marchegiano prevents Burza from getting the reversal.
Burza tries to lock up and control but Marchegiano gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Burza is looking to improve his position but Marchegiano isn't that keen on the idea.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burza regains half guard.
Burza works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burza had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marchegiano defends it easily.

Burza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Burza looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Burza looking for a sweep. Not yet Burza, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marchegiano tries to free his leg and advance position but Burza is retaining full guard.

Burza working for a triangle but Marchegiano defends it easily.
Burza is looking to sweep but instead, Marchegiano has passed into half guard.
Burza slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Burza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Burza keeping moving, preventing Marchegiano from controlling successfully.
Marchegiano wants to stand but Burza has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Burza is looking for a triangle but Marchegiano pushes his legs off easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burza is on top in guard.
Marchegiano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Burza trying to control but Marchegiano is working from the bottom.
Marchegiano wants to get back to his feet but Burza is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Marchegiano keeping moving, preventing Burza from controlling successfully.

Burza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burza slips nicely into half guard.

Burza seems to be looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Burza is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Burza trying to control from half guard but Marchegiano is working away.
Marchegiano tries to kick Burza off in order to stand up. Burza Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Burza is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marchegiano has escaped the position, nice work there.

Burza working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Burza in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Marchegiano is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Burza!
