And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Messi's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Messi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Jones is taking a breather. Messi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jones in particular looking to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones is working Messi over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Jones gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones tightens his grip and picks Messi up, before dumping him to the ground. Messi manages to land in guard.

Jones wanted to stand there but Messi had control of the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Messi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jones uses his free foot to push down on Messi's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Messi.
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Messi's face.

Messi is in a horrible position here. Jones smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones lands a big elbow - Messi is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Messi is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). John Jones!
After the fight, John Jones was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
