PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincenzo Lauretta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vincenzo Lauretta was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Tyson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vincenzo Lauretta!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lauretta tries to clinch but Tyson moves out of range.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch but Lauretta swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tyson swings for the body but Lauretta moves out of range.
Lauretta leaves Tyson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lauretta wants to clinch.
Lauretta tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tyson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Lauretta!
Tyson shoots in for a takedown but Lauretta shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Tyson moves into the clinch.
Tyson can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Tyson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lauretta gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tyson.
Lauretta putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Tyson in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Lauretta breaks from the clinch.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch but Lauretta swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tyson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Tyson shoots for a takedown but Lauretta saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Tyson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lauretta's guard.
Tyson is breathing heavily.
Lauretta tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tyson looking to pass the guard.
Lauretta is looking to stand up but Tyson isn't so interested in that idea.
Lauretta is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Tyson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Mike Tyson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Lauretta tries for a takedown but Tyson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tyson thows a body shot but no joy.
Lauretta lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lauretta is defended easily by Tyson.
Tyson stuns Lauretta with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Lauretta fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tyson avoids it really well and circles away.
Lauretta shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tyson as he jumps to the side.

Tyson shoots in and bounces Lauretta off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Tyson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Lauretta has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Tyson has passed into side control.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tyson looks up at the clock and then as Lauretta takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Tyson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Lauretta is trying to improve his position.
Tyson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Lauretta will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Tyson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lauretta for as long as he can get away with.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Tyson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Lauretta gets caught flat footed, as Tyson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tyson controlling from the top position.
Tyson stands up over Lauretta, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lauretta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tyson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tyson gets to his feet. Lauretta looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Lauretta is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tyson.
Mike Tyson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tyson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lauretta.
Lauretta closes the distance and clinches up with Tyson, looking for a takedown. Lauretta pushes Tyson against the cage but Tyson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tyson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No luck for Lauretta with that takedown attempt.
Mike Tyson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vincenzo Lauretta.

Tyson drives through with a takedown into Lauretta's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Tyson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Tyson closes the distance and pushes Lauretta back into the cage.

Lauretta is fighting off a takedown attempt but Tyson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Lauretta to the mat. Lauretta regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Lauretta is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Tyson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Tyson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lauretta is looking for a sweep. Tyson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Lauretta is in trouble now - Tyson has advanced to mount!
Tyson cracks Lauretta with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Lauretta is looking to improve his position but Tyson isn't that keen on the idea.

Tyson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lauretta is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tyson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Tyson dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tyson closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Vincenzo Lauretta has been cut.
Lauretta fails to land the takedown.
Tyson works Lauretta's body with a nice hook.
Lauretta shoots in and drives through. Tyson sprawls well.
Vincenzo Lauretta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lauretta shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tyson as he avoids it easily.
Mike Tyson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vincenzo Lauretta.

Tyson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lauretta's half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mike Tyson.

Tyson has closed the distance and engaged Lauretta in a clinch.
Tyson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lauretta pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Tyson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lauretta gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Tyson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lauretta pulls his leg out and moves away.

Lauretta is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tyson pulls his head out easily.

Lauretta has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tyson is working away from the top position though.

Lauretta tries to lock up and control but Tyson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Tyson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Vincenzo Lauretta has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tyson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Tyson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tyson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
