PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Timmy Crain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dante Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dante Vader is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Timmy Crain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dante Vader!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Crain.
A right-left combo lands from Crain.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vader enables Crain to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vader manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Crain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Vader bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Crain's guard.
Crain wants to get back to his feet but Vader is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vader is in close to Crain's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Crain will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Crain controls Vader momentarily but Vader frees himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crain can't keep his opponent in guard - Vader advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Crain is looking for a sweep. Vader is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Vader thows a huge punch but Crain dodges it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crain pushes Vader off looking to stand but Vader dives back in and keeps control.
Vader is pressing down on Crain's thigh, looking to free his foot. Crain is holding on for now.
Crain wants to get back to his feet.
Vader tries to pass the half guard into mount. Crain knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Crain makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Crain.
Vader stands and throws Crain's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Vader in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Crain is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Vader is controlling him well.
Crain is looking to regain half guard here but Vader keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Crain's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crain wants to get back to his feet but Vader drags him back down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vader working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Crain on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Crain is working to avoid the ground and pound but Vader connects with a decent elbow.
Vader scores with a couple of short elbows.
Vader has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Crain tries to improve position but can't.
Crain prevents Vader from improving position.
Vader misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Crain wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Vader tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vader has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Crain is looking to regain half guard here but Vader keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vader tries for a kimura but Crain is defending well.
Crain tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vader wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Crain is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Vader wants to advance to full mount but Crain doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Vader working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Crain's head.
Crain wants to stand and escape but Vader is having none of it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vader accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Crain wants to sweep here but Vader controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Crain pushes Vader off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Crain drives through and clinches with Vader against the cage.
Vader wants a takedown but no success here.
Vader wants to take the fight to the mat but Crain manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vader is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Crain is defending well.
Timmy Crain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dante Vader.
Vader looks winded!

Crain wants the takedown. Vader is fighting it off but Crain persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Vader's guard against the cage.

Vader is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Crain wants to control from the top but Vader keeps moving.
Vader throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dante Vader will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Crain shoots in for a takedown but Vader shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Crain instigates a clinch.

Crain manages to pull guard.
Vader stopping the sweep attempt from Crain.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vader accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Crain wants to sweep but no luck.
Vader postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Vader throws a big elbow that misses.

Crain had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vader defends it easily.

Crain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Crain is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vader is controlling him.
Crain has momentary wrist control but Vader slips an elbow through the middle.
Vader is pushing down on Crain's leg trying to pass to half guard. Crain is fighting to maintain full guard but Vader has managed to sneak the leg through.
Vader passes to side control.
Vader looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Crain is avoiding damage well.
Crain is trying to get back to his feet.

Vader has an Americana. Crain didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Vader is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Vader hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dante Vader!
