PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Simon Strange (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and River Greywar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Strange!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, River Greywar!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strange tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Greywar wants to clinch up but Strange keeps it at a distance.
Greywar keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Strange.
Greywar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Greywar tries to score with a low kick but Strange moves his leg out of the way.
Greywar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Strange circles away quickly and effectively.

Strange looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Greywar!
Greywar is pushing Strange's head away, looking to escape. Strange manages to hold on to the position though.
A lull in the action here.
Strange lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Greywar down.
Strange controlling the position from side mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Greywar is not content to let Strange control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strange is really struggling to control Greywar but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Greywar being controlled for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Simon Strange wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Greywar throws a series of punches but Strange avoids them all with ease.
River Greywar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Greywar.
Greywar changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Strange fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Strange closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Strange looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Greywar with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Greywar wants to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Strange wants to work for an arm triangle but Greywar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Strange seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Greywar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Greywar has hold of Strange's hands but Strange slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Strange is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Strange has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Greywar's face.
Greywar is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Greywar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Strange is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Greywar to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Greywar shrugs it off.
Greywar is trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Strange swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Simon Strange!
Simon Strange seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
