The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quispel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Averson is trying to defend but Quispel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Averson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Quispel working over Averson with some ground and pound. Averson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Quispel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Averson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
It looks like Quispel is going to stand back up.
Averson wants to control but Quispel is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Averson is looking for a sweep. Quispel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Quispel stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Averson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Quispel napping and manages to drive through into side control!
