With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robin Funk!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin throws a right hand that misses
and Funk counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Aleksandr Karelin has been cut.
Funk tries to clinch but Karelin is having none of it.

and Karelin counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Funk is trying to break the clinch but Karelin has him pressed against the cage.

Karelin gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karelin seems to be working for a kimura but Funk defends the submission attempt.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Funk is looking to escape.
Karelin missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Funk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Karelin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Karelin lands a nice short elbow.
Funk is trying to stand up here but Karelin is controlling him well.
Karelin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Funk's head.

Karelin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karelin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Funk is trying to stand.
Karelin is trying to control. Funk wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Karelin is looking for a kimura but Funk is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Karelin to get the leverage.
Karelin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Funk wants to get back to his feet.
Karelin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Karelin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Funk tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Karelin manages to move to mount!

Funk tries to buck Karelin off but he can't manage it.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Karelin cracks Funk with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Whack. That's a big, big shot from Karelin! Funk is out cold! This one is all over!
