PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Moraes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Henriques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson Henriques told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Moraes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Henriques!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moraes looks to land a combination but Henriques avoids it well.
Moraes throws a nice outside leg kick.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That was a close round but I would say that Matheus Moraes will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Moraes with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

and Moraes makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Moraes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Moraes fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Henriques.

Anderson Henriques seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Moraes gets caught flat footed, as Henriques shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Henriques drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Moraes dives on top into guard.

Moraes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Henriques is aware though and is defending well.

Henriques drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Moraes manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Henriques has Moraes in his guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Moraes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Henriques has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Moraes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Good leg kick by Moraes there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Matheus Moraes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
