PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rock Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makosi Karolczak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Makosi Karolczak will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rock Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Makosi Karolczak!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karolczak blocks a head kick by Lee.

Lee feints and as Karolczak raises his hands in defense, Lee changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Lee passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Lee cracks Karolczak with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee wants to stand but Karolczak has his arm trapped.
Karolczak is trying to get back to half guard.

Lee working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Karolczak tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Karolczak tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lee wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lee trying to control the position but Karolczak is working away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lee tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lee has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lee trying to control the action but Karolczak is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lee tries for a kimura but Karolczak is defending well.
Lee tries to get to his feet but Karolczak is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Lee in his guard.
Lee tries to stand but Karolczak is controlling from the bottom.
Karolczak wants to stand but Lee is controlling the position.
Karolczak utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Karolczak looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Karolczak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Karolczak is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lee drops back looking for a leg! Karolczak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Karolczak manages to kick Lee off! Lee jumps back into Karolczak's guard.
Lee postures up and lands a big shot to Karolczak's brow.
Lee trying to control but Karolczak is working from the bottom.
Karolczak has a closed guard, preventing Lee from standing up.
Karolczak is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Karolczak lands a couple of shots from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karolczak is trying to keep Lee in close.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Karolczak is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lee defends well.
Karolczak throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Lee forces his way into half guard.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Karolczak is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Lee is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karolczak doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lee.

Lee is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Karolczak defends it well.
Lee prevents Karolczak from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee works his way into side control.

Lee is trying to get an arm triangle but Karolczak is defending well.
Lee working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lee lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Lee tries for a kimura but Karolczak is defending well.
Karolczak sneaks back into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Karolczak is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Karolczak manages to get to full guard.
Lee connects with a couple of short punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rock Lee dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lee wants to clinch up but Karolczak keeps it at a distance.
Lee looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Lee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Lee comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Lee moves into range and clinches up with Karolczak.
With the fighters up against the cage, Karolczak throws an elbow but misses.

Lee successfully pulls guard.

Karolczak got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Karolczak has managed to get both his arms back between Lee's legs - danger averted.

Lee is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee looking to control.
Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lee is looking for a triangle but Karolczak pushes his legs off easily.

Lee has his foot on Karolczak's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Karolczak works his way back into a safe position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karolczak trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Makosi Karolczak hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Lee has managed to clinch.

Lee is trying to trip Karolczak. He has hold of a leg but Karolczak is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lee persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Lee thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lee wants to stand but Karolczak has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Karolczak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lee is looking to stand up but Karolczak won't let him.
Rock Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Karolczak throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Lee is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Karolczak has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Lee is looking to defend but Karolczak has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Lee! Karolczak pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Lee taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Makosi Karolczak!
