PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Beam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beam comes to the cage accompanied by Hollywood Undead - Everywhere I Go. Burza comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Metallica - Enter Sandman kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Beam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Burza!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burza fails with a takedown attempt.

Burza closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Burza wants to work for an arm triangle but Beam is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Beam wants to get back to his feet.

Burza is looking for a kimura but Beam is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Burza to get the leverage.
Burza stops Beam from getting back to his feet.

Burza is working for a submission of some sort.

Burza seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Beam has recovered full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burza trying to control but Beam is working from the bottom.
Beam on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Beam tries to get out of the position.

Burza pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Beam is keeping the position for now.

Burza stays in close to Beam's body and controls the position.
Burza prevents Beam from getting back to his feet.
Burza tries to free his leg and advance position but Beam is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Burza was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Beam tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burza swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Beam moves in looking to clinch but Burza pushes him off.
Burza scores with a crisp jab that stopped Beam in his tracks.
Burza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Beam avoids it really well and circles away.
Beam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jim Beam is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Beam fails with an attempt to clinch.
Burza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jim Beam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Burza.
Beam tries to close the distance and clinch but Burza swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burza will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Burza.
Beam tries to clinch but Burza moves out of range.
Burza tries for a takedown but Beam sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Beam lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Beam is looking to clinch but Burza is avoiding it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Beam takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Burza shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Beam sprawls well. Beam wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Burza gets slowly back to his feet.
Beam throws the kick towards the body but Burza avoids it.
Beam moves in looking to clinch but Burza pushes him off.
Burza circles away from the clinch attempt.

Beam closes the distance and clinches.

Beam manages to break the clinch.
Beam defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Burza.
Beam ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burza moves away.

Beam moves into range and clinches up with Burza.

Beam pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Burza lands with a nice combination. Beam backs away looking to recover.
Burza jabs Beam right on the nose. Beam blinks but takes it well.
Beam wants to clinch.

Beam gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Burza to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Burza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beam swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Beam knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burza on the ground.
Beam wants to get back to his feet but Burza is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Beam keeping moving, preventing Burza from controlling successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burza stops Beam from standing up.

Burza postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Beam is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Burza, into his guard.

Beam avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Burza dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Burza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Beam tries to avoid it but Burza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Beam to the ground. Beam escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jim Beam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Beam throws a body kick that misses.
Beam moves to clinch but Burza breaks away

and Burza counters with a nice double leg into side control. Beam won't be happy with that.

Burza tries for a kimura but Beam is defending well.

Burza is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Beam knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Burza tries for a kimura but Beam is defending well.
Beam wants to get back to his feet but Burza drags him back down.

Beam is letting Burza control him for a moment.
Beam tries to escape but Burza is in control.

Burza working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Burza is trying to get an arm triangle but Beam is defending well.

Beam is trying to get back to his feet.

Burza swings around for an armbar but Beam sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Burza's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burza is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Burza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Beam is aware though and is defending well.
Beam seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Burza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Burza is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Beam frees his head nicely. Oh but Burza has switched to an armbar! Beam is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
