Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zach Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brandon Paul!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Paul fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Paul is trying hard to land a takedown here. Brooks sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Brooks moves in looking to clinch but Paul pushes him off.

Paul scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Paul is staying tight to Brooks's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Brooks tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Paul wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Paul stands up and beckons Brooks to his feet.

Brooks tries to sprawl but Paul drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Paul is looking to stall here but Brooks recovers full guard.

Brooks pushes Paul off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Paul rushes Brooks and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Brooks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Paul misses with a jab, cross combination.
Paul throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Paul slaps away a takedown attempt from Brooks, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Brooks dives in and grabs Paul's left leg, looking for a takedown. Paul pushes down on Brooks's head and hops out.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zach Brooks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paul doesn't manage to clinch there - Brooks circles away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Brooks.

Brooks tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brooks postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Paul is trying to get back to half guard.
Paul being controlled for a moment.

Brooks working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Paul manages to work his way to half guard, despite Brooks's best efforts.
Paul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brooks is pressing down on Paul's thigh, looking to free his foot. Paul is holding on for now.
Brooks wants to take a breather but Paul is having none of it.
Brooks is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Paul is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Paul is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Paul preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Paul tries to get to full guard but Brooks has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brandon Paul will probably get the nod.

Brooks pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Paul closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brooks circles away.
Brooks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Paul connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Brooks instigates a clinch.

Paul escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brooks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Paul swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Paul shoots in but no luck this time.
Paul tries to clinch but Brooks is having none of it.
Brooks slips a jab and a cross from Paul.

No joy there for Paul, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Paul is defended easily by Brooks.
Zach Brooks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Paul.
Brooks digs a good body shot into Paul's ribs.
Brooks scores with the left hand. Paul knows he should have avoided that one.
Brooks works the jab nicely.
Brooks throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Paul's head.
Paul will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Paul is breathing heavily.

Brooks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Paul's guard.

Paul working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brooks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brooks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Brooks gets to his feet. Paul looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brooks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Brooks's jab looks to have found its range, popping Paul under the eye.
Paul looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brooks is fending him off so far but Paul persists. Nope, Brooks circles away and we're back to standing.

Paul shoots in and bounces Brooks off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Paul throws a big right hand that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brooks is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Paul has his hands clasped together but Brooks extends and breaks Paul's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Brooks.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Zach Brooks!
