PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Moukako (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Waho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sammy Moukako has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sammy Moukako!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Corey Waho!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moukako changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Waho tries to avoid it but Moukako manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Waho to the ground. Waho escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Moukako tries to close the distance and clinch but Waho swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Good leg kick by Waho there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Moukako will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Moukako shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Waho as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sammy Moukako. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Waho misses with a body kick.
Waho throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Moukako looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Waho drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Waho tries to free his leg and advance position but Moukako is retaining full guard.

Waho is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Moukako is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Waho controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Moukako escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Waho gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Moukako has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Waho is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Moukako.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Moukako manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Waho is controlling Moukako's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Waho is looking for a sweep. Moukako is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Waho looks gassed!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Moukako is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Waho is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Waho with a lazy takedown attempt

and Moukako counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Waho!

Moukako goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Waho turns into him and now he's in Moukako's guard.

Moukako is looking for a triangle but Waho pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Moukako has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Waho can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Moukako escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Waho gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Waho works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Moukako is trying to maintain the position but Waho is very close to passing his half guard.
Moukako wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Waho sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Waho moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Moukako.

Moukako tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Waho wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waho landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Moukako trying to remain calm as Waho controls from the top position.
Moukako is not content to let Waho control the position.
Moukako is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moukako is looking to improve his position.
Moukako is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Waho counters with a good low kick that Moukako was not able to check.

Waho takes a swing at Moukako's ribcage but misses.
Waho throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Moukako scores with a kick to the midsection.
Moukako throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Corey Waho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Waho has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
