PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Sidnel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dawidek The Hamer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dawidek The Hamer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dawidek The Hamer!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sidnel leaves The Hamer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sidnel looks for a takedown but The Hamer sprawls well.
Sidnel tries for a takedown but The Hamer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sidnel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from The Hamer.
Sidnel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Thomas Sidnel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dawidek The Hamer.
The Hamer shoots in for a takedown but Sidnel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sidnel shoots for a double leg takedown but The Hamer sprawls well. He's pushed Sidnel's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The Hamer closes the distance and clinches up with Sidnel, looking for a takedown. The Hamer pushes Sidnel against the cage but Sidnel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The Hamer shoots in but Sidnel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The Hamer pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Sidnel back to the cage. The Hamer follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - The Hamer has eaten all the pies!
Sidnel shoots in for a takedown but The Hamer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The Hamer has closed the distance and engaged Sidnel in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Hamer prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sidnel tries to pull guard but The Hamer holds him up against the cage and eventually Sidnel drops back down to his feet.

The Hamer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sidnel tries to clinch up but The Hamer circles away and keeps his distance.
Sidnel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from The Hamer.
The Hamer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Thomas Sidnel has been cut.
The Hamer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The Hamer stuffs the takedown attempt from Sidnel. Sidnel gets slowly back to his feet.

The Hamer moves into the clinch.

The Hamer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sidnel walks away with a smile on his face. The Hamer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

The Hamer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sidnel has The Hamer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. The Hamer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Sidnel counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sidnel.
The Hamer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sidnel lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sidnel is looking to work some ground and pound but The Hamer has wrist control.

The Hamer wants to sweep but no luck.
Sidnel wants to get up but he can't break The Hamer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sidnel throws a big elbow that misses.
The Hamer pulls Sidnel in close to prevent any damage.
The Hamer trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The Hamer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sidnel wants to clinch.

and Sidnel counters with a nice double leg into side control. The Hamer won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The Hamer gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Sidnel stops The Hamer from getting back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The Hamer kicks off Sidnel and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dawidek The Hamer will probably get the nod.

That's time! Sidnel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The Hamer slaps away a takedown attempt from Sidnel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The Hamer lands a high kick!
The Hamer lands with a kick to the temple. Sidnel shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Sidnel moves into range and clinches up with The Hamer.
The Hamer jumps guard but Sidnel stands there with The Hamer around his waist. The Hamer gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The Hamer lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

The Hamer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sidnel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming The Hamer to the mat! The Hamer manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sidnel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thomas Sidnel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The Hamer has a closed guard, preventing Sidnel from standing up.
The Hamer wants to improve his position but instead Sidnel has moved into half guard.

Sidnel wants to work for an arm triangle but The Hamer is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Sidnel is trying to work for a kimura but The Hamer is defending well.
The Hamer is trying to get back to full guard.

Sidnel prevents The Hamer from standing back up.
The Hamer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The Hamer is trying to stand.
Sidnel is trying to control. The Hamer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Sidnel is sneakily working for an arm triangle but The Hamer sees it coming and defends easily.
The Hamer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The Hamer is not content to let Sidnel control the position.
Sidnel works his way into full mount!
Sidnel looking to ground and pound but The Hamer is blocking nicely.
The Hamer is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Poor strikes thrown by Sidnel there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Sidnel is going oldschool here, as he tries to force The Hamer to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so The Hamer shrugs it off.
The Hamer tries to hold on but Sidnel postures up.

The Hamer prevents any damage by holding on tight.
The Hamer looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
The Hamer breaks Sidnel's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Sidnel is trying to keep The Hamer in close.
The Hamer won't allow Sidnel to sweep him here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sidnel manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sidnel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
The Hamer lets loose with a powerful body kick. Sidnel will feel that in the morning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Thomas Sidnel will probably get the nod.

Sidnel sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed The Hamer's guard.

Sidnel seems to be working for a kimura but The Hamer defends the submission attempt.

Sidnel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The Hamer is looking to escape.
