PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Larry Dimmick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Larry Dimmick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Hardy!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardy scores with a one two! Dimmick had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Dimmick throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Hardy lands with a kick to the temple. Dimmick shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Dimmick fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hardy tries to clinch but Dimmick is having none of it.
Hardy misses with a series of wild punches.

Dimmick gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dimmick changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hardy fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A big left from Dimmick misses.
Larry Dimmick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hardy working for submissions but it's allowed Dimmick to get to half guard.
Dimmick trying to control from Hardy's half guard. Hardy has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Dimmick prevents Hardy from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hardy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dimmick wanted to stand there but Hardy had control of the position.

Hardy has his foot on Dimmick's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dimmick works his way back into a safe position though.

Dimmick postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hardy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dimmick, into his guard.
Dimmick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hardy manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dimmick decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hardy lands a nice looking body kick.
Dimmick is breathing heavily.
Dimmick shoots for a takedown but Hardy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Larry Dimmick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A right-left combo lands from Hardy.

Hardy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hardy lands in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Hardy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dimmick's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hardy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hardy connects with a nice short shot to Dimmick's temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dimmick is not content to let Hardy control the position.

Hardy postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Dimmick to stand up.
Dimmick fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Dimmick takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Dimmick shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dimmick was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hardy gets back to half guard.
Dimmick missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Hardy works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hardy looking for a sweep. Not yet Hardy, not yet.
Dimmick has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dimmick avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hardy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dimmick trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hardy will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hardy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dimmick tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dimmick is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hardy scores with a couple of nice shots.
Hardy controlling the action here.
Hardy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Hardy dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hardy tries to throw a body punch but Dimmick avoids it by throwing Hardy back against the cage.
Dimmick managing to block the knees to the body from Hardy.
Hardy throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dimmick blocks it with crossed arms.
Dimmick works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Dimmick manages to break the clinch.
Dimmick throws a head kick that misses
and Hardy counters with a series of strikes. Dimmick will be more careful next time no doubt.
Hardy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dimmick throws a predictable looking body shot
and Hardy counters with a nice uppercut.
Hardy lands a jab-cross combination.
Dimmick shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hardy counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Dimmick fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hardy wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Dimmick throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hardy counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's one minute gone in the round.
A right-left combo lands from Hardy.


Dimmick is rocked!
Dimmick tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Hardy counters with a slapping leg kick.
Oh Dimmick is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A big right followed by a crushing left from Hardy knocks Dimmick out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Dan Hardy!
