PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Razormind Remix. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cox shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cole defends it nicely.

Cole gets caught napping as Cox dives in and scores a takedown. Cole manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cox prevents Cole from getting back to his feet.
Cox stays in close to Cole's body and controls the position.
Cox wants to pass the guard but Cole is keeping the position.
Cox will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cox slips nicely into half guard.

Cox is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cole defends it well.
Well, if Cox is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Cox seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cole for as long as he can get away with.

Cole looking to sit in guard and control but Cox gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cole pulls Cox in close to his closed guard and prevents Cox from doing any damage or advancing position.
Cox is looking to stand up but Cole won't let him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cole dodges the punch combination from Cox.
Cole closes the distance and clinches up with Cox, looking for a takedown. Cole pushes Cox against the cage but Cox circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cole stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cole wants it to stay on the feet.
Cox tries for a takedown but Cole sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jesse Cox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cole doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cole manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cole can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cox controls the pace.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Cox looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cole is fending him off so far but Cox persists. Nope, Cole circles away and we're back to standing.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jesse Cox.

Cox clinches up against the cage.

Cox pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cox drives through and clinches with Cole against the cage.

Cox breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cole shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cox sprawls well. Cox wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cole gets slowly back to his feet.
Jesse Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Cole.

Cox fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cole sprawls well initially but Cox persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Cole takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cox drops an elbow to the side of Cole's head.

Cox working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cox is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cole doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cox.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jesse Cox was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
Adam Cole was interviewed post fight and said 'It was a fair fight, in my opinion. We both gave it our all, but my opponent came out the better fighter, and that's all that matters.'.
