Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 42 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian King!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy body kick from Mendez
and King counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mendez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before King can pounce on him.
King with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Mendez keeps the fight on the outside.
Mendez lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
King lands an overhand right.
Mendez throws a wild body kick that King sees coming a mile off.

King stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mendez.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Mendez cracks a nice hook into King's ribs.
King checks a low kick from Mendez.
That kick from Mendez tenderised King's leg. King is trying to keep his angry face on.
Mendez throws a head kick that misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mendez prevents a body shot from King.
A short right hand to the side of the head by King.
A head punch on the inside from King fails to land.
King misses with a punch on the inside.
This has been an exciting period of action!
King swings wildly with an uppercut but Mendez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from King.

Mendez drags the fight down to the ground.
King is looking to stand up but Mendez won't let him.

We've been hearing good reports from Mendez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That was a close round but I would say that Tony Mendez will probably get the nod.

King drives through and clinches with Mendez against the cage.

King has a couple of punches blocked by Mendez.

King tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mendez's elbow.
King tries to throw a body punch but Mendez avoids it by throwing King back against the cage.

King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mendez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

King on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

and Mendez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
King is trying to maintain the position but Mendez is very close to passing his half guard.
Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


King scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Tony Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King's corner calls for a 1-2. King obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

King thumps Mendez with a low kick.
Mendez has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

King tried to score with a low kick but Mendez checks it.
King throws a jab but it's blocked by Mendez.

Mendez tries a head kick but it misses.
Mendez bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of King's head.
Mendez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mendez closes the distance and lands a one-two.


Brian King's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brian King's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Tony Mendez!
