Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Erik Bariles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Zol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bariles comes to the cage accompanied by Thriller by Michael Jackson. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Zol!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bariles throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Zol sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Zol closes the distance and clinches up with Bariles, looking for a takedown. Zol pushes Bariles against the cage but Bariles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bariles lands a really nice looking cross but Zol seems unphased.
Jay Zol seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zol shoots in for a takedown but Bariles shows good takedown defense.
Bariles throws a lazy right hand but Zol sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
No joy there for Zol, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Zol digs a good body shot into Bariles's ribs.
Zol shoots for a double leg takedown but Bariles sprawls well. He's pushed Zol's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Zol changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bariles tries to avoid it but Zol manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bariles to the ground. Bariles escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Bariles counters with a series of strikes. Zol will be more careful next time no doubt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Horrible takedown by Zol or perhaps it was just good defense by Bariles which made him look bad.

Bariles lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Zol shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bariles as he jumps to the side.

Zol cracks Bariles with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Zol immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Bariles is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Zol!
