PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brian Arch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ernie Whit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arch comes to the cage accompanied by Firestarter - Prodigy. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brian Arch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ernie Whit!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arch shoots for a double leg takedown but Whit sprawls well. He's pushed Arch's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Arch closes this distance looking for a takedown but Whit circles away.

Arch gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Whit content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Arch is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whit looking to hit a scissor sweep but Arch is one step ahead there.
Whit should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Whit can't keep his opponent in guard - Arch advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Arch keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Whit is trying to control but Arch passes into side control!

Arch landing strikes.
Arch wants to control but Whit is keeping him busy.
Whit is trying to improve his position.
Arch gets to mount! Whit was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Whit is in all sorts of trouble here.
Arch manages to capitalize on a mistake by Whit to take his back!
Arch has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Whit.
Whit looking very determined here, making life difficult for Arch.
Whit really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Arch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Whit rolls, trying to escape but Arch keeps control of the position.
Arch gets his hands free as Whit looks to control.
Arch lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Whit hold on?!
Arch controlling well, preventing Whit from escaping the position.
Arch is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Arch gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Arch gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Arch apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Whit tries to clinch there but Arch circles away.

Arch bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Whit is looking for a sweep.
Whit is trying to control Arch's posture but Arch avoids it.
Arch blocks the strikes from Whit.
Whit is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Arch is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Arch will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whit is bucking up trying to escape but Arch cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Whit defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Arch.
Arch is breathing heavily.
Arch trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Whit keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Arch landing shots from mount.
Whit is working to get back to half guard.

Whit has given up his back. Will we see Arch going for some submissions?
Oooh a big shot gets through from Arch. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Arch is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Whit up.

Arch working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Arch gets his hands free as Whit looks to control.
Whit is really stuck here.

Whit defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Arch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Arch is hanging on to Whit's back as he tries to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Whit pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Arch gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Whit decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Arch's guard.
Whit postures up in Arch's guard and throws a big left but Arch blocks it.

Arch is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Arch has his foot on Whit's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whit works his way back into a safe position though.

Whit pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Arch is keeping the position for now.
Whit postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Arch looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Whit scoring with punches to the head and body.
Whit throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Arch works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Whit with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Whit is looking to advance position but Arch has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Whit keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Arch wants to stand but Whit is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Whit is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Whit is looking to get to half guard.

Arch is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Arch gets caught flat footed, as Whit shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Whit must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Arch keeping moving, preventing Whit from controlling successfully.
Whit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Arch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Whit is looking to advance position but Arch has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Whit is desperately trying to improve his position but Arch has a good base and remains in mount.

Arch jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Whit manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Whit misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Whit struggling a bit here.
Whit is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Arch is staying active.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Arch shoots and misses

and Whit counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Whit trying to control the position from guard on top but Arch is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Arch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Whit is one step ahead there.
Whit postures up.

Arch looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Arch had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Whit is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Arch Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Whit's back instead.

Whit tries to break free.
Arch tries to get the hooks in deep but Whit pushed the leg off.
Whit is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Whit trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Arch patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Arch struggling to land strikes to the head as Whit covers up.
Arch keeps control of the position as Whit tries to break free.
Arch trying to control momentarily.

A close second round but Ernie Whit will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Brian Arch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Arch manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Whit is trying to reverse the position but instead Arch has taken his back - oops!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Whit tries to escape but Arch has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Arch trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Arch is working for a rear naked choke. Whit is not defending it well and Arch has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Whit refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Whit's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Brian Arch!
