Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Reagen Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Seamon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Christopher Seamon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Reagen Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Christopher Seamon!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Penn lands in his opponent's guard.
Seamon controls Penn momentarily but Penn frees himself.
Seamon keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Seamon keeping full guard, as Penn tries to pass.
Penn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Seamon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Seamon can't keep his opponent in guard - Penn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Penn working the head and body with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Seamon is refusing to be controlled, as Penn sits in half guard.

Penn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Seamon has managed to free his arm - good work.
Seamon preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Seamon is trying to stand up here but Penn is controlling him well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Penn seems to be looking for submissions.
Seamon is refusing to be controlled, as Penn sits in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Penn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Reagen Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Penn is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Seamon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Penn lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Penn is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Seamon has escaped the position, nice work there.

Seamon is looking to reverse the position.

Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Penn stands up and beckons Seamon to his feet.

Penn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Penn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Penn tries for a kimura but Seamon is defending well.

Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Seamon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Penn off and has taken his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Seamon lands punches and elbows.
I really don't envy Penn right now.
Seamon is not going to allow Penn to sit and survive in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reagen Penn dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A nice combination there by Seamon.
Penn stuffs the takedown attempt from Seamon. Seamon gets slowly back to his feet.

Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Penn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Penn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Seamon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Seamon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Seamon!

Seamon working away.
Seamon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penn keeps working.
Penn wants to control but Seamon postures up.
Penn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Penn tries to escape but Seamon is in control.
Seamon controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Seamon to the mat! Seamon manages to get full guard.
Penn throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Penn throwing strikes from guard but Seamon blocks nicely.
Penn won't allow Seamon to get back to his feet.
Penn showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Penn wants to control from the top but Seamon keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Penn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Seamon is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

We're going to have a standup here because Reagen Penn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Penn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Seamon quickly recovers to half guard.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Seamon manages to get to full guard.
Seamon trying to keep a closed guard but Penn is proving a slippery customer.
Seamon thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Penn trying to control but Seamon is working from the bottom.

Seamon working for a triangle but Penn defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Penn throws a big elbow that misses.
Penn wants to control from the top but Seamon keeps moving.
Christopher Seamon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Seamon looking for a guillotine here but Penn defends easily.
Seamon wants to stand and escape but Penn is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Reagen Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Penn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
