Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edgar Hoover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Mayhem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hoover might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ecstasy of Gold. Mayhem has chosen Bullet With A Name by Nonpoint as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayhem misses with a left hand

and Hoover decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mayhem's guard.
Hoover slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mayhem tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hoover wants to control from the top but Mayhem keeps moving.

Hoover has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hoover makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Hoover wants to stand but Mayhem is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mayhem stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hoover swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hoover can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mayhem controls the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Mayhem wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mayhem connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hoover crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mayhem - the referee stops the clock and Hoover gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mayhem. Hoover manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Mayhem wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mayhem throws a solid leg kick but Hoover takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Mayhem.
Hoover shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mayhem counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hoover looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mayhem is fending him off so far but Hoover persists. Nope, Mayhem circles away and we're back to standing.
