PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yoshi Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Klaus Schankelies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Klaus Schankelies will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Klaus Schankelies !
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Lou da Vinci and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schankelies lands with a shot to the body.
Suzuki shoots in looking for a takedown. Schankelies tries to sprawl out of it but Suzuki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schankelies manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Suzuki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schankelies swivels and escapes.
Schankelies scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Suzuki on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Schankelies throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Suzuki's waist but Suzuki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Schankelies off to one side.

Suzuki shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Schankelies manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Schankelies is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Suzuki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schankelies tries to avoid it but Suzuki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schankelies to the ground. Schankelies escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Suzuki enables Schankelies to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Suzuki manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Schankelies has his foot on Suzuki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Suzuki works his way back into a safe position though.

Schankelies looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Suzuki is defending well. Schankelies quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Suzuki has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Schankelies celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
