PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jin Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Farr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Farr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Welsh National Anthem. Tommy Farr will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 28 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Jin Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 14 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tommy Farr!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farr swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Farr takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


It looks like Jin Kim has been cut.
Kim walks into a stiff left hand from Farr.

Farr closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Kim breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice uppercut lands for Farr. That snapped Kim's head back.
Kim is trying hard to land a takedown here. Farr sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A cross from Farr lands.
Farr thuds his right hand into Kim's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Farr loads up on a big right hand but Kim slips the punch.
A jab from Farr finds it's way through Kim's defenses.
Kim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Farr pinned against the cage. Farr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kim looks to clinch
enabling Farr to counter with a crisp jab.

Farr gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Kim has picked Farr up - he's going for a ride! Kim dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Farr wants to get back to his feet.

Kim is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Farr defends it well.
Kim with the ground and pound but Farr uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Kim in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kim trying to control the position from guard on top but Farr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jin Kim has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kim blocks a jab.
Kim uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Farr.
Kim fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Farr connects with a right hand. Kim shakes it off.
Farr throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kim sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kim shoots in but no luck this time.

and Farr counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Kim fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kim closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Kim misses with a takedown attempt - Farr sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nice shot lands for Farr.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Farr leaves Kim with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Farr's corner calls for a 1-2. Farr obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kim steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Farr.
Farr might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Kim walks into a jab.
A big right from Farr misses.
Kim shoots in but no luck this time.
Farr dips to his left and cracks Kim with an uppercut!


Jin Kim's cut is getting worse.
Farr throws a jab but it's blocked by Kim.
Farr misses with an uppercut. Kim saw that one coming.
Kim takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Farr's corner calls for a 1-2. Farr obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kim changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Farr tries to avoid it but Kim manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Farr to the ground. Farr escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tommy Farr seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kim swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Kim shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Farr is trying to defend but Kim finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kim throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kim prevents Farr from standing back up.
Farr avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kim.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Farr wants to get back to his feet.

Kim is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Farr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kim.

Farr is trying to stand.
Farr avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kim.
Farr pushes Kim off looking to stand but Kim dives back in and keeps control.
Kim tries to pass to full mount but Farr defends it.

Kim is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Farr has managed to free his arm - good work.
Farr is looking to escape.
Kim stalling.
Kim thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kim prevents Farr from standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim is pressing down on Farr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Farr is holding on for now.
Kim wants to lay and pray for a moment but Farr keeps working.

Kim is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Farr sees it coming and defends easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim prevents Farr from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Farr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kim misses with a takedown attempt - Farr sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Good exchange - Farr coming out on top.
Farr lands with a good body shot.
Farr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kim.
Farr scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kim doesn't seem bothered though.
The fighters circle momentarily. Farr darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Kim shoots for a takedown but Farr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Farr connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Farr lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Farr throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Kim's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Farr dives in looking to finish as Kim flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Farr's strikes! Farr is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Kim's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Kim was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tommy Farr!
Tommy Farr decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
