PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brad Marchand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jr's choice of entrance music: Aint no Grave by Johnny Cash. Brad Marchand has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Marchand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Jr!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jr is trying hard to land a takedown here. Marchand sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Frankie Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marchand shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Marchand drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jr dives on top into guard.
Jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marchand has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jr is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Jr has Marchand pressed against the cage, preventing Marchand from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jr tries to pull guard but Marchand forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Jr with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Jr has clasped his hands together around Marchand's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Marchand manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jr's best efforts.

Jr thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Marchand bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jr's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Brad Marchand wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Jr darts in and clinches Marchand up against the cage.

Jr breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Marchand cracks Jr with a right hand to the side of the head.

Jr shoots in and drives through. Marchand sprawls well.
Brad Marchand has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frankie Jr.
Jr shoots for a double leg takedown but Marchand sprawls well. He's pushed Jr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jr rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Marchand counters with a nice uppercut.
Jr darts in trying to clinch
and Marchand counters with a big right hand! Oh Jr is in trouble here! Marchand follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brad Marchand!
