PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Stroef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jacob Smith has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jacob Smith seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jacob Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Stroef!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries for a takedown but Stroef circles away easily
and Stroef counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A combination from Smith does no damage.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stroef, pushing him back against the cage.
Stroef is stalling here.
Stroef is pressed up against the cage. Smith has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stroef down to the mat. Stroef avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Stroef counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jacob Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stroef gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stroef preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Stroef is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Simon Stroef hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stroef defends it nicely.

Smith gets a takedown into half guard.
Smith looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Stroef is refusing to be controlled, as Smith sits in half guard.

Smith controlling the action here.
Stroef moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Stroef controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Stroef utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Stroef is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Smith advances position into side control!
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stroef keeps working.
Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Stroef controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

You can see the frustration on Stroef's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smith prevents Stroef from escaping the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith tries to get to his feet but Stroef is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Smith in his guard.
Stroef is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Smith trying to control but Stroef is working from the bottom.

Smith stands up from Stroef's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt
and Stroef counters with a left to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith wants to clinch but Stroef slips to the side
and Stroef counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Smith is lucky that one didn't land flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Simon Stroef will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stroef circles away.

Smith shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stroef pinned against the cage. Stroef gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Oooooh!!! Stroef has knocked Smith down with a huge combo! Stroef steps away and waves a wobbly Smith back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stroef rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Smith has Stroef pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Stroef manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stroef just stands there and leans against the cage.
Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Stroef fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Smith tries for a takedown but Stroef sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Smith tries to bum rush Stroef with a series of wild strikes but Stroef uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Stroef throws a right and a left that both miss.
Stroef tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Stroef counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stroef to the ground. Smith is now in Stroef's guard.

Stroef pushes a forearm under Smith's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Smith is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
