The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toro shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruiz sprawls well. Ruiz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Toro gets slowly back to his feet.
Ruiz tries to clinch there but Toro circles away.
Toro lands a really nice looking cross but Ruiz seems unphased.
Ruiz walks into a left hand.
Toro stuns Ruiz with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ruiz rushes Toro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ruiz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Toro tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ruiz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Toro with that takedown attempt.
Toro scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ruiz doesn't seem bothered though.

Toro goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

It looks like Leo Ruiz has been cut.
Toro tries to clinch there but Ruiz circles away.
Toro slips a jab and a cross from Ruiz.

Ruiz pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ruiz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Toro bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ruiz's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fight stays on the outside here - Toro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Toro wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ruiz tries to work over Toro's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Ruiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ruiz. Toro does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ruiz misses with a head kick.
Toro moves out of range of the body kick from Ruiz.

Ruiz drives through and clinches with Toro against the cage.
Toro has had enough of the clinch but Ruiz keeps him there for the moment.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Toro.

Ruiz manages to break the clinch.
Toro throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Ruiz takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Toro moves in looking to clinch but Ruiz pushes him off.

Ruiz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Toro moves away.
Toro tries to clinch up.
Toro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ruiz as he jumps to the side.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Toro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Toro's corner calls for a 1-2. Toro obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ruiz tries a head kick but it misses.
Ruiz looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Toro is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Ruiz had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Toro uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ruiz.
Toro swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ruiz.

The crowd cheers as Toro lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ruiz doesn't seem phased though.

Toro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ruiz tries to avoid it but Toro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ruiz to the ground. Ruiz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
