PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Sugoi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Tsehov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tsehov has chosen Ivan Rebroff - Cossack Patrol as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Sugoi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivan Tsehov!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tsehov throws a right and a left that Sugoi avoids nicely.
Tsehov blocks a head kick by Sugoi.
Tsehov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Tsehov is looking to clinch.

Tsehov clinches up with Sugoi and pushes him back against the cage.
Sugoi manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Tsehov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sugoi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Tsehov to the mat. Tsehov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Tsehov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sugoi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sugoi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sugoi could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Tsehov is working an open guard so Sugoi takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Tsehov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tsehov looks gassed!

Sugoi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Sugoi fails to pull guard.
Tsehov is trying to break the clinch but Sugoi has him pressed against the cage.
Tsehov tries for a takedown. No joy.
A right handed body shot lands from Sugoi.
Tsehov tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sugoi smiles and moves away.
Chris Sugoi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Tsehov.
Sugoi fails to land with a series of punches.
Tsehov shoots in for a takedown but Sugoi shows good takedown defense.
Sugoi connects with a body shot.

Sugoi forces Tsehov back against the cage and clinches.
Tsehov drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tsehov tries to score a body lock takedown but Sugoi shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sugoi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sugoi is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tsehov pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sugoi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tsehov gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Sugoi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Sugoi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Sugoi won't allow Tsehov to sweep him here.

Tsehov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sugoi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tsehov on the ground.
Tsehov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sugoi manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tsehov looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tsehov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sugoi's guard.

Tsehov is looking for a kimura here.
Sugoi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tsehov connects with a nice short shot to Sugoi's temple.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tsehov trying to advance position but Sugoi counters by regaining guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sugoi looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sugoi wants to stand but Tsehov is controlling the position.
Tsehov is fighting to break Sugoi's control of his arms but Sugoi is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sugoi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tsehov is one step ahead there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sugoi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Tsehov at a distance.
Tsehov closes the distance but Sugoi moves to the side

and Sugoi counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tsehov!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Sugoi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sugoi tries for a takedown but Tsehov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sugoi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Tsehov misses with a double jab

and Sugoi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tsehov gets back to full guard.
Sugoi prevents Tsehov from getting back to his feet.

Tsehov has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Sugoi doesn't defend quickly enough and Tsehov has managed to lock this one up! Can Sugoi escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Tsehov on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ivan Tsehov!
