Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brian Maddox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Solomon Obasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Obasi has chosen Overkill as his entrance music. Brian Maddox is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brian Maddox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 20 - 1, fighting out of New York, Solomon Obasi!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maddox missing with a left hand there. Obasi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Obasi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Maddox.
Obasi fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Maddox checks it well.
Maddox lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Maddox feints and as Obasi raises his hands in defense, Maddox changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Maddox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Maddox pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Obasi is keeping the position for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Maddox's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Obasi is looking for a triangle but Maddox pushes his legs off easily.

Obasi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maddox can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brian Maddox has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Obasi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

A slapping leg kick lands for Obasi.

and Obasi counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Obasi looking to control but instead Maddox has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Maddox moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Maddox controls Obasi momentarily but Obasi frees himself.

Obasi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Maddox controls Obasi momentarily but Obasi frees himself.
Maddox lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Obasi!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Maddox lets loose with a powerful body kick. Obasi will feel that in the morning.
Maddox scores with a leg kick.
Maddox uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Obasi.
Obasi throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Maddox on the side of the head.
Obasi avoids a punch combination nicely.
Obasi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Maddox chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Obasi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Maddox throws a right and a left that both miss.
Maddox fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Obasi checks it well.
Obasi misses with a body kick.
Obasi chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Maddox can pounce on him.
Good leg kick by Obasi there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Obasi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Maddox throws a leg kick that misses.
Obasi shoots in looking for a takedown. Maddox tries to sprawl out of it but Obasi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maddox manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Maddox closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Maddox lands a right hand.
Maddox is pressed up against the cage. Obasi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Maddox down to the mat. Maddox avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Obasi pivots, looking for a leg kick but Maddox is out of range and Obasi settles back down.

Maddox controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Brian Maddox overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Maddox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Obasi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maddox got a little sloppy there for a moment and Obasi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maddox has managed to get both his arms back between Obasi's legs - danger averted.
Maddox wants to control from the top but Obasi keeps moving.

Obasi is stalling here. Maddox is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Obasi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Maddox has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Well Maddox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
