PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Hartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Mack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sam Mack struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Teddy Hartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Mack!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mack avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Hartman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hartman is thwarting Mack's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Hartman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hartman wants to control but Mack is keeping him busy.

Hartman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mack defends it well.
Hartman wants to take a breather but Mack is having none of it.
Mack won't allow Hartman to pass to mount.
Mack has hold of Hartman's hands but Hartman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mack has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hartman is working away from the top position though.

Mack is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mack clinches.
Hartman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hartman stops a takedown attempt from Mack.
Hartman scores with a shot to the side of Mack's head.
Hartman throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Macks head.
Hartman changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mack fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hartman tries a head kick but it misses.
No luck for Mack with that takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Mack or perhaps it was just good defense by Hartman which made him look bad.
Teddy Hartman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Mack.

Hartman throws a right hand that Mack ducks under and follows up with a left that Mack also avoids with ease.

Nice uppercut there from Hartman.
Hartman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Hartman misses with a few strikes there.
Hartman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hartman shoots in and bounces Mack off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hartman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hartman shoots in but Mack avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mack takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Mack throws a combination. Hartman tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mack.
Teddy Hartman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mack slips a jab and a cross from Hartman.

Mack shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mack showed some decent athleticism there.
Mack is looking to advance position but Hartman won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hartman throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Teddy Hartman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hartman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hartman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Mack is avoiding damage well.
Hartman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mack keeps working.
Hartman is trying to move to mount but Mack reverses beautifully and ends up in Hartman's guard.
Hartman wants to control the position but Mack says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Mack stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hartman to get to his feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hartman crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mack - the referee stops the clock and Hartman gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mack. Hartman manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

and Mack counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hartman won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hartman is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Mack is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Mack pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Mack lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Mack wants to control the pace but Hartman is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mack fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Mack postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hartman looks a forlorn figure.

Mack is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hartman has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mack avoids the attempt from Hartman to control.
Hartman holds on for dear life.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mack lands a big elbow.
Hartman is desperately trying to improve his position but Mack has a good base and remains in mount.

Sam Mack showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hartman stuffs the takedown attempt from Mack. Mack gets slowly back to his feet.
Hartman tries to bum rush Mack with a series of wild strikes but Mack uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hartman scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Hartman stalks Mack and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mack's face. Mack staggers backwards, shaken.
Mack takes one to the chin there.

Hartman tries to keep at a distance but Mack has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hartman lands a hook that snaps the head of Mack backwards.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mack manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Mack keeps control of Hartman as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Mack is looking to break free of the clinch but Hartman has double underhooks.
Hartman is trying to break the clinch but Mack has him pressed against the cage.

Mack has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hartman uses from the top position.

Mack tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hartman swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mack keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mack misses with a takedown attempt - Hartman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mack wants to control from the top but Hartman keeps moving.

Hartman is working an open guard so Mack takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hartman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mack tries to avoid it but Hartman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mack to the ground. Mack escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sam Mack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mack has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
