PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Nassoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerry Nassoon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Peters!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nassoon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Peters sprawls well initially but Nassoon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Nassoon is working for a submission of some sort.

Nassoon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Peters has managed to free his arm - good work.
Nassoon is breathing heavily.
Peters misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Peters wants to improve his position but Nassoon is controlling well.
Peters works his way to full guard. Good work.
Peters looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Peters lands an upkick as Nassoon stands over him.
Nassoon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Peters is proving hard to escape from.
Peters not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Peters might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Nassoon haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Nassoon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Peters is trying to control the position from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. James Peters hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Nassoon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Peters manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Nassoon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peters looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nassoon postures up.
Peters keeping moving, preventing Nassoon from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Peters is trying to control the position but Nassoon postures up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Peters wasn't active enough on the ground.
Nassoon throws a nice looking combination but Peters bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nassoon thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Peters if he has to take too many more of those.

Nassoon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Peters napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Peters struggling a bit here.
Nassoon advances to mount.
Nassoon controlling from mount.
Nassoon throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Peters wants to control but Nassoon is having none of it.
Peters's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Nassoon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Peters is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Peters postures up and lands a big shot to Nassoon's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Nassoon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Nassoon dives in and scores a takedown into Peters's guard.
Peters thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Nassoon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Nassoon drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Peters manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nassoon has Peters in his guard.

Peters gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nassoon manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Peters on his heels. He'll look to pass Peters's guard now, I'm sure.
Peters thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Nassoon preventing the sweep.
Peters is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nassoon is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Peters trying to keep a closed guard but Nassoon is proving a slippery customer.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Peters tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Peters bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nassoon's guard.
Peters trying to control the position from guard on top but Nassoon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

We're going to have a standup here because Jerry Nassoon wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Nassoon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Peters's guard.
Nassoon trying to move into half guard but instead Peters has managed to sweep!
Nassoon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Peters wants to control from the top but Nassoon keeps moving.
Jerry Nassoon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Peters tries to free his leg and advance position but Nassoon is retaining full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. James Peters hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Nassoon has managed to clinch.
Peters lands a body shot.
A short right from Peters on the inside.
Peters lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Peters wants to get back to striking at distance but Nassoon won't allow it.
Peters is stalling here.
A nice left hand lands by Peters.
Peters pushes Nassoon back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Peters.
Nassoon prevents Peters from breaking the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Peters scores with a nice short uppercut.

Peters escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nassoon gets the takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Peters regains half guard.
Peters striking from the bottom.
Peters tries to roll over but Nassoon keeps him under control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Peters kicks off Nassoon and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but James Peters will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Nassoon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Peters is looking to control Nassoon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Peters avoid being mounted?
Nassoon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Nassoon is working for a kimura but Peters is defending it quite comfortably.
Nassoon prevents Peters from standing back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nassoon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are battling for position here. Peters manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Peters is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Peters throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Peters doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Nassoon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Peters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nassoon is one step ahead there.
Peters is trying to keep Nassoon in close.

Peters throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Peters manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
BOOM! Peters connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Peters raining down shots from the mount!
Peters wants to control the pace but Nassoon is squirming around nicely.
The referee warns Nassoon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


Nassoon is rocked!
Nassoon is squirming around, avoiding Peters's attempts to control the action.
Peters lands a big shot to the head and Nassoon winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). James Peters!
