PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fiedel Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Thurman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fiedel Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Harry Thurman!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castro fails with the takedown

and Thurman counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Thurman gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Castro.
Thurman stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Castro wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fiedel Castro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thurman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Castro up against the cage.
Castro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Thurman is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Our sources have told us that Castro has been working on his elbows in the gym.

Castro gets control of Thurman's arms and successfully pulls guard. Castro will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thurman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Thurman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Thurman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castro swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Castro looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Thurman has picked Castro up and slammed him! Castro can't keep hold of the triangle and Thurman manages to pass to side control!
Castro tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Thurman presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Thurman wants to control the pace but Castro is squirming around nicely.

Thurman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Castro can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Thurman wants to get back to his feet but Castro is holding on tight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Thurman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Castro manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Castro has a hand on Thurman's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Thurman takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Thurman with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Castro tries to reverse the position but Thurman maintains control.

Thurman wants to control the pace but Castro is squirming around nicely.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Castro is trying desperately to improve position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Thurman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thurman closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Castro is working for takedown but Thurman is calmly controlling the position for now.

Castro is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Thurman can't fight it off and eventually Castro manages to take the fight to the floor. Thurman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thurman is pulling down on Castro's head. It's preventing any offense from Castro, at least for the moment.

Thurman is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Castro rolls with it to try and escape but Thurman cranks on the arm and Castro is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Harry Thurman!
Harry Thurman was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
